Who wants to destabilize Bahrain and Kuwait? For Riyadh and Washington, there is no doubt that Tehran is seeking to weaken the powers of Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. Both countries have the same feature. They have a high proportion of Shiites among their populations. Shiites are even the majority in Bahrain.
According to diplomats in Riyadh, the destabilization targeting the regimes of the two countries does not seek the establishment of a Western-style democracy, but undermine the legitimacy of both regimes perceived as being ?very aligned with Washington and Riyadh ?. According to a former head of a CIA in Jordan now working in consulting, if Bahrain falls into the hands of Iran, the Saudi Najran- a region filled with oil and populated by Shiites- could quickly rise in revolt. A situation that could further complicate the geopolitics in the region.
